Understanding India's Tax and Regulatory Framework for Expatriates with Expertise and Ease
With businesses becoming increasingly global, Multinational Corporations (MNCs) are rapidly expanding operations across the world. With this expansion, there has been a substantial increase in the number of foreign nationals (expatriates) employed with multinational corporates coming to India for short/long-term assignments. The purpose of these assignments may vary ranging from sharing of technical know-how to implementation of new projects/policies or introducing leading industry practices.
This necessitates adequate preparation in respect of the tax and regulatory framework of the country by such corporates and their employees. Expatriates working in India need to adhere to rules and regulations of the country. At OBOX, we offer required inbound services for expatriates. We excel in providing practical and result- oriented advice, ensuring smooth process for all. We keep a tab on recent developments/amendments and their applicability to our client’s business as per Indian business law.
The Foreigners Registration Office is the primary agency to regulate the registration, stay, departure, and extension of stay in India. Foreign nationals visiting India for a long period of time (more than 180 days) have to register themselves with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of their arrival in India. If the deadline is not met, the registration will be marked as late and will involve an additional fee.
- Foreigners would not be required to mandatorily visit FRRO/FRO office for a grant of service.
- In certain exceptional cases, the foreigner will be intimated to visit the FRRO/FRO on scheduled date and time for the interview.
- Foreigners need to get their registration done. Therefore, the family members of the expatriate, above the age of 16, also have to get themselves registered.
